I have not had these yet and wondered how you like them? I don't want wild, nuts, crazy swimmers that upset my neons so wondered how active are they.
Thanks

I don't have harlequins but have pygmy rasboras which are similar. They pretty much swim all over but prefer the top half of the tank. They aren't crazy swimmers, quite the opposite; slow, peaceful and tend to swim in a school. IMO perfect to go with neons.

Tolley! What a great idea. Thank You.
I removed my black skirts from the neon tank and today removed the gold tetra. They are so nuts they keep the neons on the bottom of the tank.

I had Harlequin Rasboras...I lost all six during a heat wave two years ago. They are lovely fish, and bother no other fish. They school nicely and are fairly calm...

I have seven in my tank with 8 neons, they don't freak the neons out at all. In fact, I think the neons are more spastic that my harlequins, they school more cloesly and hang out at the top while the neons never school and hang around the middle chasing eachother.

Well off topic, but didn't you just set up a tiger barb tank? Why is it that we have not seen pictures?

I have a school of 8 Harlequins in my 55g. They are very peaceful, never bother any of the other fish, and also are totally ignored by the others. They like to wander around in the plants but every so often put on a little show by swimming through the filter stream in a line, going back and forth a dozen times before resuming their regular activities. It's very amusing.:goldfish: :goldfish: :goldfish:

Cool! I'm sorry that I missed this! If I can swing a bigger tank for my South Americans, I'm thinking of turning my 120g into a tiger barb only tank.

thumbs2: They are great little fish, if I ever get a bigger tank I want a bigger school of these guys! Sometimes two of them will go into this weird little "wiggle at eachother" dance, I'm not sure what it is but they will line up side by side and just vibrate at eachother. Sometimes they change it up and face opposite ways, wiggling at eachother in a circle... very entertaining, and usually lasts like a half an hour, lol
Fins - My tiger tank is definately interesting, they are so weird, lol. They're very skittish and manage to all cram themselves into one corner so it looks like there are no fish in there at all, lol. I'm hoping they'll get used to us soon, the tank is in the basement and there's always someone going down there a couple times a day and the tank is right next to the basement computer, but they still hide. Maybe once I get more they'll become more outgoing, lol. When they come out - what a show! I'll have to get a video sometime!
They keep to them selves.

I have school of 13 Harlequins in my 20 gallon long and they are such a beautiful and peaceful fish. I just added two small ones to the tank a couple of weeks ago and that evening all of them were dancing in the current and swimming up and down displaying. I started out with 3 just about a year ago and have slowly added to the school. They display a reddish, pinkish, coppery glow when they are happy. They have been and still are a pleasure to have and are easily kept (knock wood) without any problems. They get along with most everyone. thumbs2:

I have 5 in my little 10 gallon. They are one of my favorite schoolers. It's amazing the difference in color from the store to the home. My dominant male is very red and even has a bit of a purplish hue around the edges of his body. It's really interesting to watch the two males do their little challenges where they will swim side by side with fins fully stretched to try and see who is the top fish(generally same sexes do this to each other, and I can only imagine it for hierarchy reasons). I've also had mine spawn every 4 weeks thus far. I really like these fish and will mostly likely be getting a large school of them for my 40/50 gallon that I'm planning.

:sley: morning lady HObbs!!! There you are. yes i need to know how to get pics bigger. How many little harlequins do you have. oh i set up the breeding discus tank.. and now you know oh i would like to put the yo yo in there. But nope breeding must be done. I just hope i can get them to breed once they go into this smaller tank. IF i leave them oh well the discus -other discus would eat those fry won't they? Nope my only hope is to put the parents in another tank. now i am the harlequin post thinking discus. Tell me Lady Hobbs what fish present are you going to get yourself????

I'm too poor to pay attention this year! However, I may eek out enough pennies to get me some more neons.

:snowman: yes neons would look good. Can't find the cardinals as easily you know. but i have so many in the discus tank. Would you put a yo yo in with seven clowns or just leave the clownfish alone? My yo yo needs a bigger tank and they can't go in the breeding tank. i must say a fishtank reall adds to decor. nothing like the sight of tank needing to bef filled. i am tempted to go out and get another harlequin rasbora. A whole bunch came in. Young ones. But they have to be bunched. And i am down in the number of rummies. i could go with harlequins instead. How are your cichlids???????:ssmile:

I have read that harlequins are a weaker fish these days due to the way they are inbred. However, the 5 that I have are wonderful, bulging, healthy fish that prefer the midlevel of the tank. They are not aggressive in the slightest. They dont even really chase eachother much.
The perfect tank mate imo.

:fish: :fish: oh I do like where the harlequins swim. yes up there in the upper levels of the tank. Mine are doing well so far in the tank now for a couple of days. I thought the filter was going to get them. They need more though to really show the fish off.
Hi,
I have 5 five harlequins, use to have 9 but my Blessed Zipper Loaches decided to kill them off. So now I am left with 5 very active fast moving fish.
I have kept them is Nones before an they are great together.

I bought 6 once...back when i was horrible at keeping fish. Most died, 1 jumped out of the tank, 1 still lives.
While they were alive i think they were fine with my neons.

Yea I only have five in my tank and they spawn readily. My top male is a perverted little thing though, he's ALWAYS pestering the girls. They are egglayers and mine usually spawn 1-3 hours after the lights come on. Mine seem to love to spawn in the corners nearest to my filter. Their eggs don't stick to the glass and the other rasboras will eat the falling eggs as they're being laid.

My tank is placed where the morning sun hits just one corner. The morning sun makes them dance and display in that one corner and then.....:1luvu:
