My first goldfish!

After thinking about it for months, A few weeks ago, I finally used my end of the semester procrastination motivation to set up a new tank!

This is my new fish. He lives in a ten gallon aquarium sitting next to my desk.

He was shy for the first few days. But now it seems like he never rests? and he favors the corner that I feed him in.. I wish he would swim around more.. makes me think hes hungry all the time.. or bored.

I can't wait to get to get him a tank mate!

dont get him a tankmate, goldfish generally need 20g for 1, 10g thereafter, so for 2 you need at least a 33g

No, normally goldfish can grow anywhere from 4-12" So he will quickly out grow a 10gallon especially with a tank mate. If you have the funds, I would get a 20 gallon, or maybe buy a heater, and change to tropical fish instead.

True about tank size. I have 3 comets in my pond, and the one I've had the longest doubled in size in about 6 weeks, and is still growing at a ridiculous speed.

Unfortunatly I have to agree with the rest.
You will need a larger tank in the next couple of months.

I guess I underestimated how fast goldfish grow..

I'll be searching craigslist for a free 30 gallon. Any bigger won't fit in my room. If anyone in the SF area needs to get rid of one let me know!

Hi all!

New tank is set up! Put the old filter, gravel, decorations into it... with an extra filter... creates kind of a lot of current but the old filter is only good for 20 gallons and tank is 29... Going to put in some live plants with the next water change and possibly an air stone...

well if you can wait until february. Im gonna be going up there (san jose) . We get tax money in January and Im buying my goldfish a new 120. So the 30g tall they're in now (which isn't wonderful but does the job) is not gonna be needed around here anymore. Let me know

Yea, I don't have enough space in the house to cycle the new one before I switched, but the old filter and everything seems to be doing its job fine.

Now looking at a 10g, I wonder how I ever thought it was big enough for more than one goldfish.

A bunch of live plants will help quite alot with keeping the water clean.

Try anacharis, its cheap, and grows quick.

dont forget goldfish have been known to eat plants

That depends mostly on the rest of their diet. If it is truly complete and balanced they don't bother them. Mine definitely don't.

mine will root them up out of the sand, or roll in them. So I leave them floating.

Beautiful goldfish, but as stated he will need a larger tank. A 20g is good for the rounder type goldfish, and a 29g is prefered for comets ans shebunkins. Good luck with the fish!
