View Full Version : Which fish for my tall tank...

Hi there folks,
I'm new around here, and new to the hobby too (well, not so much new as a returning hobbyist after many years away).

I've got a lovely tank, its a 90 Litre (about 20 gallon) tall Octagonal tank. Now, I have since read that i ought to have got a more standard long tank, but ah well, thats what I've got (was an ebay bargain). It does look damn spiffy too.

I have a lovely large peice of driftwood in there (still leaking tannin after weeks of soaking) which i have attached a pair of Anubias Nana plants.

Now, the tank is almost cycled, and its time to think about the little fishies! What i was thinking for the tank was:

2 small Angelfish (the LFS will take them back in exchange for store credit when/if they get big)

1 Bristlenose Cat (as above)

2 Corys

2 Blue Balloon Rams

Now, i was thinking of adding the Corys first, but is 2 enough? I dont want the little fellas to be lonely, but i also dont want the bottom of the tank to be too crowded. The Rams will definately be the very last things to go in (hope they do ok). I'm tempted to go for 3 Corys, but i dont want them to crowd the Rams when they get in there.

What do people think? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Cheers!

2 cories sounds good. Try to keep slower fish in that tank. Fast fish like danios need alot of surface area, like in a long tank. For your case, go with 2 angels, 2 cories, the rams, and the cat. Also, a algae eater would do good, like a small breed of pleco.:1:

I would add a bunch of rams with the coreys and bristle nose and omit the angels. They could breed and you'd have 50 angels to deal with in that tank.

Yeah. If you cant sex them, skip them. The angel babies will be alot of work.

Also, stick to smaller fish, because of the lack of surface area and gas exchange at the top of the tank. Good luck with the fishes

you have to worry about that too. cories are fine cause they come up for air

Welcome to AC. I would also suggest smaller species

Hey,

Well, i have a pair of cute little Corydoras Julii in the tank now, and they have settled in well, playing alot and hanging out. They seem quite at home in the tank, and the levels of everything seem to be remaining steady.

Tannin continues to leech from the driftwood, but it aint so bad with a couple of 15-12% water changes. Good news that the Anubias roots are growing, starting to grab a hold of the wood.

Now trying to think of the next fish to join these two...
