Found a piece of driftwood i liked locally, already waterlogged. I think its perfect and the corys seem to love it.

This is the best i can do with my cam without putting some real effort into pic taking, and even so my pics still dont turn out like i like. Years ago when i bought my digital cam it was ok, but im looking to upgrade to something cheap but effective for taking fish pics.

So im browsing ebay and similar. The only problem is i cant put my deal hunting skills to work so please give this pic noob some insight.
What am i looking for?
Whats good?
Whats not?
What specific specs are good/bad?
Specific models good/bad?
I want to spend around $100 or hopefully less and it all comes out of the fish budget.

Heres the snaps....

WT, I just had a look at ebay usa, The camera I was looking for was
a Fufi finepix S7000, it is an awesome camera, top of the range for a point
and shoot, takes great fish pics and has an awesome macro feature.
The cheapest I could find one for in buy it now was $149, but there were others that might be worth bidding on. I know this is a bit over your budget
bud, but I promise you it's well worth the extra 50 bucks and you won't be looking for another camera untill I talk you injto a DSLR lol.
I had this camera before I upgraded to my Nikon and it is quality.
I'll pm you a link bud, not sure if i'm allowed to post links on the forum.

Here's a couple of samples from the fugi S7000

Nice tank WT!thumbs2:
A few tall narrow plants and the background will make a difference.
Have you read Sounguru's photo primer. It helped me a fair bit but I still take a lot of pictures! Delete,delete,delete...lol but you do get a few.Practice angle and different lighting.Tank lights in a dark room and start clicking.I put the camera right against the tank sometimes.
Practice and patience!

Well hopefully a good camera will give me a little boost.
Like i said in the OP i can do better, just some quick snaps. I didnt clean the glass, intake, or anythig like that. I still need to add some substrate to the tank as well.

Any good low light plants for background you had in mind ng?

I might start a thread to get some ideas on that

I am no plant expert and I don't even know the name of the plant lol
It looks like long thick stands of grass and it dances really nice in the current.I will be getting soon hopefully.I also like the spiral vals.I believe they are low light as well.

Wysteria i think, but im not plant expert either, ask around! lol
I like never can blow the cash on high intesity lighting. I may build a canopy in the near future, but i'll have to see how that 10gallon rack goes first, and then i need to help a buddy build an iguana cage.

I built my own canopies and installed a flourescent light fixture in each.
I found it too bright and so did my fish so I painted the bulb in a spiral pattern .one red one blue.I think for everything for both was about 50 Canadian dollars. So about 20 for you! lol

I know what fixtures you are talking about and yea you are about dead on for the ballast + 2 bulbs, $20.

I'll have to look into what bulbs i can put in there...thanks for the tip NG

BTW i remember seeing the hoods you are talking about and they did look really nice.
