So I may have made a mistake or two at the wrong time and now I have a temp of 85*

Wasent feeling good, but on my way home I stopped by the LFS and bought two plants (Anacarius I believe), which I got home I put the bag in the aquarium to aclimate to the temperature.

Layed down for a minute and feel asleep to wake up 12 hours later to my alarm clock to go to work....

What I did not do...
Feed Fish
Turn off Light (On for 24 hours total)
and Avg. Room temp is around 80-85* (No AC in the dorms just heat and its always hot in the rooms)

The Aquarium is cycled
Is due its weekly water change wednesday

What I did this morning when I woke up...
Quickly took bag with plants outta aquarium...
Feed fish a little bit of food, a little less than normal...
Unplugged heater...
Turned off light..

I KNOW this is bad for the fish, and I need help!!!

What exactly do you need help with? Getting some routines in place?

The fish will be fine from not being fed one day, and you won't have any probs from leaving the light on too long if it only happens once in a while.

But it might be a good idea to put the light on a timer.

Edit: If your room is always warm it might be a good idea to unplug the heater altogether.

The heater should automatically turn off when the water is above the temp it is set at. If it is set at 80, when the water gets to 80 and above the heater should simply stay off.

The lights on all night once won't really hurt anything. But keeping them off until tomorrow morning shouldn't either.

Get those plants in, feed, it should be fine.

Well, its the fact that my temp is 85* and not going down...I thought it may have been the heater just not turning off thats why I unplugged it....The reason I listed most of the things is, is any of that what caused the temp to go up? I keep my temp for the Aquarium around 76* normally so thats what makes this weird to me, and has me worried....

Or do I even have a reason to be worried?

EDIT: Id also like to add the reason I keep it plugged in is because the outside temp is 29* and should something happen like room heater break (Being on a military base could happen, crap breaks all the time) I want something there to help a little...and my room is always HOT like marbles sweating, or FREEZIN, like marbles frozen togather

I think you are more stressed than your fish at the moment!lol
Leave your heater set at a certain temp ang get a timer as suggested.
Don't forget to feed your fish. All should be fine as long as you do not forget your weekly water changes.:19:

Unless you have a lighting system that severely affects the temp that would not really bring it up like that.

I have the old style hoods and those screw in bulbs really warm the tank up.I just leave the access flap open and the tank doesn't heat up too much and I close it at night.

I would say you are probly right, Ive been study'n for a big test working 12 hour shifts, then I wake up to two flat tires on my brand new car and my fish tank overheating....Its one of those days, and I really dont wanna lose my fish.....

**Deep breath** Ill relax now and post a temp when I get home

And Im going to look into a timer for the light, only got a 35watt Light...

If its a flourescent light it will not raise your heat much enough to worry about.A timer for the light would help.
Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck, but it will not last forever!:19:
Take care and find some time to relax.Tell your CO I said so!lol

Yea, I wish it was that simple, lol....The test is on my job, and one of the guys I work with just failed it, so it looks like a Other than honorable discharge for him...and the pressure has been put on me to pass so, Im not worried, just a lot of studying and hopefully I can have it done by christmas.....also I just read else where

"Note also that you should be letting them fast once a week, to clean out their little digestive systems.. :)"

It's good for them to fast every now and then just like they would in the wild. Some on here fast them twice a week, some once a week, some once a month.

Thank ya man......

As with the temperature....it was 80 this morning when I left for work, Im still worried about my little buddies, but, they appeared happy and normal. I also thought mabey my thermometer isnt accurate, its the tape one on the outside...so Im going to purchase a in tank one...

If your fish aren't already showing signs of stress from the high temp. then they will probably be fine. Yep, lots of people go a day a week without feeding so don't sweat that either. Concentrate on the test and stop worring about the fish (wink) they are fine. Wishing you the very best on the test.

The tape on outside thermometers aren't the most accurate. Try and get one that goes into the tank. You can get them for about $2 they have a suction cup on them to stick them to the inside.
Good luck with the test!! Concentrate on that - your fishies sound fine :D
