View Full Version : So how do I sort all this out?

I have a 60L tank (approx 15G) that's been set up for around 10 months.

Recently, I had unfortunately been neglecting it a little, missing water changes and not really doing any maintenance. I'm now starting to try to get back on top of everything and am faced with a little algae issue.

Getting algae eaters is out of the question, as I don't want to add more fish to my tank (other than topping up the pygmy cories when things are sorted), and being in the UK, some products are a little more difficult/expensive to get hold of. I'm wondering how I should go about sorting all this out...

Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with...

lights are on for 10 hours a day, just a 15W T5 bulb, between 9am and 7pm.

I'm not using any fertilisers right now.

First thing you can do is to start manually scraping your glass and try to remove as many plant leaves (ie. pruning) that have algae. You can also cut down your light to about 8 hours. This should start getting things under control until you come up with a good water change schedule.

Make sure you do your initial water change AFTER you do all of your scraping and trimming.
