Well, I decided to repopulate my tank after losing a few fish in the last week, I took my 6 year old, we decided on 3 yellow dwarf gouramis and 3 swordtail tetras...They are now living the high life in my quarantine tank, I think I'll wait about two weeks before moving them into the community after checking them carefully.... they are so small, the dwarfs are only about 3/4 inch long......:19:

It's a Honey gourami then. I thought for a moment there was a new species of gourami!

Thanks...they didn't have it labeled correctly at the LFS and I asked him for any other name he might know ... he didn't know .

My lfs is awful for that. The sometimes just list the Latin name if they don't know. The you ask them if the fish has a common name and they stare at you blankly.

One of the reasons I have so much respect for the community on this site...more knowledgeable than most of the people responsible for running the majority of fish stores, .. makes you wonder why they work there.. if they don't love the fish and care what the fish are actually called. How hard is it to label the tank when a new breed comes in???

There are only 3 choices in my area,
1. Petsmart
2. the one I just visited which seems to have clean tanks, and good selection, ( I didn't see a single dead fish )
3. Another discount LFS which will be my next visit. I don't think it will be better than #2 though, I wonder if I just got "the weekend staff " and there may be better personell there during the week.
#2 had lots and lots of reef tanks, live rock, wide varieties of meds, food, and other accessories.... One floor level for Salt , the other for fresh .. I'll check out #3 and if they are no better I'll stick with #2.
Thanks for the advise Jeff, assuming I don't get better help at #3 I think I could be stuck with it.

They are very pretty little fish. I wish I had gotten red honey gouramis instead of my dwarves.

Thanks... I stuck with dwarf's because my tank is a community of reasonably small fish

Most people's motization to work in retail is to pay the bills, or thier schooling. Its not something the majority of people have a passion for. A pet store probably pays a little better than working fast food. I very much doubt that extensive pet experience is required for such a low paying position though it might be a bonus to get the job.

I actually applied at PetSmart a year or two ago and they didnt hire me. I was thinking what i shame... at least i would have been passionate about the fish/small animals i sold. I would have done my best to educate every potential buyer. I see what you are saying though Wallyfish

yea, they probably just need some time to warm up to you and their new home

I just hope they don't become a quick meal for the larger tetra's in the tank, I don't think they will but anything is possible.. I had a fish similar in size dissapear and I'd expect they were the culprits....
