Could use some advise. I have a Penguin 125. for a 27 gal. tank. I am aware I should upgrade. Was never told by lfs back when I bought it, I should go bigger than required for filters. Been doing just fine untill lately. Not feeding more than normal and 40% water change bi-weekly. Haven't done anything different for the last couple of years. The substrate has always looked quite nice. Now it appears it's just not getting nearly the amount of debris off the sub. as it has before. Same fish as always. Not getting any bigger.
Should I be concerned about a possible mini-cycle in the near future?!?!? The filter collects in the media like normal, bio wheel moves freely. Filter not clogged, water flowing fine. What the fudge?!?!?!?

Well, I don't really know, how can I tell? I didn't think so being that the media gets pretty dirty like normal......Hey, not being rude, but shouldn't you be getting ready for bed, school and all????......Just kidding dude!!!
I would go get a new filter... (ac 70) and let it run on your 27 WITH your old filter. I would give it about a month and then just run the ac70 on there. I should be getting to bed soon too :)

In this case, i would start doing water changes once a week instead of bi-weekly, and vacuum the substrate better when you do it. That should take care of things until you get the filter, but you should really be doing weekly changes already anyhow. Hope that helps.
Sounds simple but the best solutions usually are in my experience
I agree with the above, run both filters at once for a month, then remove.

Ok, sweet....that was going to be my next question, how to properly replace the filter. Sorry, what's the ac stand for? Is it a quiet filter. Holy batwings Batman....I was just thinking...I did rearrange my tank a couple of months ago, could the water flow just be a little blocked, not moving around as well as before, besides the filter already being too small???
Sometimes filters just loose there flow..
Sorry about the AC
Its a Aqua Clear filter..[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
