Hi
My eight year old son just got a 20 gal. tank with 3 cherry barbs, 3 harlequin rasboras.2 black neon tetras,1 blueberry tetra, and a pleco. We bought it used and stocked. We enjoy it but now we are both drawn twards cichlids, especically Jack Dempseys.
Sounds like another tank huh?
We are both green as grass at this and are looking forward to learning from you guys.

Welcome to AC. I'm glad your tank is used with all that stock in a new tank or you'd be having some deaths due to having them in a non-cycled tank. I hope you used the same gravel that come with the tank?
There is a Free E-book you can download in the left hand menu that can get you on your way and also a small article to get you started in Announcements called Tips for Newbies. A crash course, if you may. Possibly reading either or both will help clear up some issues.

Yes it was the same gravel. Just moved it lock, stock, and barrel to a new location. Already downloaded the e-book and I'll check out the newby stuff. There were four rummy nose tetras but they all died overnight the first night. We've had the tank almost a month and the rest seem fine.
Thanks

Welcome to AC. If you are interested in a Jack Dempsey keep in mind you will need a minimum of 55 gallons and they are very aggressive. JD's should be housed with other semi/aggressive cichlids of the same size. Glad to hear you did the right thing with the tank as well!

Could I have more than one in a 55 gal. tank? Say if you had a 55 gal. tank and wanted Jack dempseys, how would you stock it?
Newby asking the experts...
Thanks
