Hi everyone!

I have a 50 gallon tank, and the fishes have been in there for almost one year. Last week, however, two of my blue turqs started to behave a bit strange. (There are six of them.) They are swimming round and round and round in circles, and sometimes even try to jump out of the tank. None of the other blue turqs (or any of the other discus) behave like this. I have moved them to an other, smaller tank, just for the two of them, but they keep acting like this. There are not spots or injures or anything else strange about the way they look, at least as far as I can see.

What's annoying them?

Are they swimming round and round each other or just round and round?

If it's the first they might consider breeding.

If it's the second I would say that there are great chances they are infected by worms and must be treated. Make sure you get a medication that is suitable for discus.

Judging by the fact that they tries to jump I would say that the second answer unfortunately is more likely the right one.

Probably worms then. I've given them mediciations now (Dyacide and Clout). At least they are both still alive.

I think it worked! They seem to feel a lot better now. When do you think it's safe to put them back in the big tank with the others?

I would give them a couple of weeks quarantine if possible.

Is 3 weeks enough? Or more to be on the safe side?

I would say 3 weeks are enough.

you should think about treating the main tank too, as the worms can live in other fish for weeks before they appear so you need to treat the whole tank for a few weeks to stop the return or the PESTS

you could try giving them 20 minutes salt baths or try putting melafix in the tank

thanks
