Lovely fish Sharon. Mine are not colored up nearly to that extend. However, mine are also younger and I hear it's in the age when they really color up nicely.

Sharon, half the articles regarding rainbows say to use aquarium salt and half of them don't mention it at all. Do you use salt with your rainbows? I don't but some of the articles confuse me as to whether I should be or not. Some say "some" rainbows like salt but not which ones. Since I have Splendid, boesemanni's and turquoise I have used no salt.

Many of my splendid are still looking like this but the more mature ones now have red fins and red at the back of the fish.

Never mind with the salt question. Got my answer on the rainbow forum already. :)

I don't use salt in my tank, Lady Hobbs. Mine were basically a duller version of what they are now...they were never the colour of yours. Could we have a different type...Mine were labelled SPLENDIDA but that may not be correct, and I haven't actually researched.

The Rainbow in question for Sharon looks kind of like a Glossolepis Incisus. But the fins are not quite right.

But as for Lady Hobbs your's look like a Melanotaenia splendida fluviatilis
