hi im new on here so hello all! ive just moved in to a new house and decided to get an aquarium. im not new to it all as my parents have a 180l tank which i helped set up so i know a little bit about getting started im thinking of getting a 180-200l tank and having a community set up of tetras guppys cory cats! i was thinking 6 neons 6 cardinals 2 pepperd or albino corys and 1 male and 2 female guppys!the thing is would my tank get over run with baby guppys after a while? i would like to breed guppys but want other fish too would you sugest having a second tank for the livebearers? plus also what other fish would go well? i was thinking a flying fox as i think there so entertaining and maybe a male betta but i know they can be sumtimes teritorial!

Welcome to the forum :)
If you don't want to be over run with guppies, you just need something that will eat "some" fry. Sounds like a nice mix of fish. Since it is your fish tank, I suggest reading the e-book offered on this site. It's always good to read up a little before setting a tank for the first time, even if it's just for refreshing your memory.

Welcome. That's an awfully big tank for guppies. Guppies would do fine in a 20 or 30 gallon and this large tank could be used for many other fish. Discus, angels, silver dollars (altho not all together) or one really super-doper cichlid tank.

ok
1. welcome
2.you have a nice set up in terms of fish going in.but you can add more.
throw some gouramis in there.
Banded Gourami - Colista fasciata
Chocolate Gourami - Sphaerichthys osphromenoides
Blue Gourami - Trichogaster trichopterus
Dwarf Gourami - Colisa lalia
Honey Gourami - Colisa chuna
Kissing Gourami - Helostoma temminckii
Moonlight Gourami - Trichogaster microlepis
Opaline Gourami - Trichogaster trichopterus
Pearl Gourami - Trichogaster leeri
Powder Blue Gourami - Colisa lalia
most of these will be fine in you tank
3. instead of guppies, go with mollies or platies.
they take longer for the babies to be born and they have less. BUT they are still equally as horny so...
and throw some danios in there too
zebra danios
giant danios
and there are many more

If you wanted gouramis you could get dwarf gouramis or power blue gouramis both stay somewhere around 2 to 3 and a half inches and there not as aggressive as the larger ones. I have 2 dwarfs in my 10g and they are very peaceful fish(at least mine are).

You should look into a dwarf cichlid tank as jeff said. Peacocks or Mbunas

a dwarf chichlid tank sounds realy good gona look into that! is it much harder to maintain than a standerd community setup with tetras guppys etc? could i mix it up a bit with a couple of chichlids with some tetras and guppys?or would the chichlids get too big for the other fish and cause problems.

It may seem I'm a bit stupid after you read this, but if too much fry is your problem, get a comet. They are the WORST fish when it comes to "calm but WILL EAT YOUR FRY" fish. About a year ago over night 2 out of my 3 female guppies gave birth to well over 50 fry. It took about 2 hours until there were absolutly no fry left ( I did not have any plantation or rocks for them to hide in). This is the only reason I keep the comet. It's getting way too big for the tank, and in the last year and a half it grew 6.5". I'm sick of it, it's a damn BABY EATER.
Anyways, It's great for fry issues :)
