if you are planning on buying someone a gift card for circuit city (AKA best buy and futureshop in Canada, just different divisions), its best to hold off. theyre on the verge of bankruptcy, and if they go bankrupt before the gift card gets used, youre out of luck

also, FOX canceled MAD TV after 14 seasons, i think the last one airs tonight

Damn, I like Circuit city, AND MADTV.

I wouldn't think that would happen to circuit city, especially with the holidays coming up. Maybe they think that even a strong closing in the 4thQ won't help them?

best buy is just killing them in virtually every aspect. It used to be circuit city was the place to go, but best buy has been dominating. Radio shack should be gone soon too.

I hate gift cards, or rebates that stores give you on items, but instead of getting a nice cheque in the mail you get a gift card.

Can't say that I will miss circuitcity haven't bought a thing there in years. These days most electronics and things I'll buy online.

dont buy much either, i used to always buy games from futureshop, and go there every boxing day for cheap stuff but i spend too much time on my reef to play games now, i only buy awesome epic games now like halo 3, bioshock, super smash bros. brawl, etc

CC filed for protection and will be closing a number of stores. The last article I read said they'd be honoring all gift cards and warranties. You just will have to drive a little farther to get to one eventually.I can't wait to see what kinda sales come out of this though. When CompUSA did the same they had some pretty good deals going on. Never was much of fan of CC though. Never seemed impressive like BB and I hated all the mail in rebates they constantly had going.

For those that don't know the guy who owned CompUsa owned a good chunk of CC. This is the same guy who bought out Good Guys on the West Coast and closed them when he said he wouldn't. The guy is something like 20% of the GNP of south America by himself. He is known for buying and selling businesses or buying one up just to close it so another of his will prosper. He didn't have a majority share in CC and I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out the first year that they had that was bad.

Actually if you check out consumerist.com there is some info there. The company that handled the clearance sales for compusa is doing the ones for circuitcity apparently. Compusa didn't really have any good deals though, what the clearance company did was to redo the pricetags with jacked up prices and then proceeded to mark them down. I remember going to compusa when things were marked down 40% , and not really seeing a deal. A lot of people jumped on the items thinking they were deals just cause they were marked down, when in reality they were jacked up prices to start off with. The same sort of thing will probably happen again. That consumerist.com site really opened my eyes to these tricks.

Oh there was a list of stores that were closing on that site, appears every circuit city in georgia is closing. Can still order online from there though.
