So I have this plant that stems up to the water. Looks like lilies but there are not any flowers. Any who.... its blocking a lot of light now a days. Though I'm glad its doing great... can this become a major problem. Im thinking about trimming it back down to like 3 pedals instead of the 8 or 9 leaves it has now.

Thanks Everyone :) (zfish)

Does it have lily pads actually floating on the surface? If so and if you want to keep the plant compact and totally submersed, cut off all the floaters and it will stay lw growing like this.11515
if you want it to flower,it generally needs an open top tank to do that.

Unless you have other plants which need the light, there's no reason to trim it. The fish will prolly enjoy the shelter from direct light, it make them feel safe.

If you do have other live plants and it's blocking their light, then yeah, you'll prolly need to trim it. Not if you have low light plants tho.

awesome. I do have some other plants that are below it, being blocked, but I may decide just to transplant them to the sunny side of the tank.

The other bonus to trimming them is that it keeps the plant younger and more robust to stay submersed totally. The plant I posted got gangly and died out just a month later when I let it keep its floaters.
