Hi.
I have a question about my convict cichlids, i bought 2 from a local pet store and they have been doing great and i think they are male and female because one is way bigger then the other but i don't see an orange spot on one of their bellies, and the bigger one is now chasing the little one around the tank does that mean that they want to have babies or do i have 2 males and he is protecting his territory.

you wont take long to find out if you have a pair, lol convicts are the rabbits of the fish world probably worse than guppys

do the female convicts get the orange spot when they get older or should they have it right away because neither of mine have an orange spot

if it does not have orange patch on the belly, it is male. I have convict fry and at half inch I can spot the orange patch on the female little ones.

yes they will have the orange spot. otherwise they are male!

The male has a bit of a hump on his head too, another way to tell :))

yesterday i bought 1 female convict from a local petstore and it seemed that she was following around the most dominate of the 2 males, and this moring when i woke up i noticed that she was rubbing her belly against the clay pot i have in the tank to push ot all of the dead leaves from the plant, how long do think it will take before she lays eggs

About ten minutes. :hmm3grin2orange: Just kidding but it doesn't take cons long to spawn all you need is a male a female and some water.

today one of my convicts was attacked and now he doesnt have a back tail fin will he be ok (i put him into a different tank)
