my pacus drive me nuts. i literally am scared to feed the fish in my 90g, they all go crazy and smash allover, and theyre going to break something. i got the guts to feed the tank today, and half a hour later i come back to some crazy gurgling sound. i thought it was my skimmer or something, and the stupid pacu still was crazy and knocked out my aquaclear 110's intake. i was already screwed over with my fluval FX5 shorting itself out, and i figured if this filter was busted, im not blowing more cash and i was going to think about getting rid of the fish. lucky for them, the filter still runs

yea, we had one in a 125g at my school and it and a pleco were the only fish in the tank. It got way bigger than most others in aquariums, it had to be like 13" or something, and when my friends put their hands over the tank to touch it or whatever it went baserk and splahed everywhere. It eventually got this weird lik slime on it and died.. their a pain, and their was no decorations standing

Your new filter shorted out? What the heck is wrong with that filter? You had nothing but problems with it. That other guy here took his back after trying 2 of them and got a Marineland. Is Hagen replacing it?

Anyway........what to do with that pacu! Too bad people have no idea of what a problem they can be and how big they get. (Like Bala's) Any places near you that have large fish tanks like restaurants or bars. Run an ad in your newspaper. Sounds like he won't be happy until he gets an 800 gallon tank!

that is why they are referred to as "tank busters"

They were bred in captivity as a food fish but many are sent over to the pet trade to multiply the price...

It makes since to use this as a food fish. It is the fastest growing anything I have ever dealt with. I once had one in a community tank when it was small that literally grew 1/4" in 24 hours. And since they are herbivores they are cheap to feed.

i still gotta get a appointment for the FX5, i guess they have a 2 year guarantee so i shouldnt have a problem getting a 2nd one. i dont think the pacu has much of a brain, and he wants is food. lol. i throw in a ton of hikari pellets, and he just skims above the surface and eats 20 at once

What are you going to do with it when it outgrows your house?

Geez I can't imagine the feeding frenzy at one of the fish stores in town. They have a 5000g tank with some pacus, ID sharks and a full grown red tail! Must go nuts in there when it's feeding time.
