are there any snails out there that do not breed more than rabbits and eat algea? I have a brown algea problem in my 55 g and would like to control it better with a snail or two but not two thousand.

Apple snails are easy to keep and very controllable.
They need both sexes to multiply and the eggs are layed above the water line.

From what I understand, Netrite <sp?> snails are fantastic algae cleaners, and you can have as many as you want in the tank, for they need salt water to breed.

I'd agree with the mystery snails. They are very good algae eaters and as mentioned above their eggs are easy to spot and remove.

The only thing with them is that if you have light green plants with soft leaves they tend to take a bite out of them. They can only eat the soft ones tho, the dark green ones are usually left alone. And if they are well fed they'll be less inclines to eat plants as well.

Yup the guys got it right. If u keep them fed they leave plants alone usually.

Nerites will not breed and will keep your tank sparkiling.
