I picked up some driftwood at a local landscaping store it is definately natural driftwood. I already know what I need to do cleaning and soaking wise. My question is about spongy outside is that normal due to being water logged and how will I know if its rotting and what not. Since im new to real wood in an aquarium I just need alittle info on it so I dont mess anything up.

is the wood soft enough that you push your finger through it?

Your driftwood should be relatively hard..
Like jeff said if it is real soft it is a no go

if it's a little soft on the outside you're fine. the wood will soften over time. just don't use it if it's rotted

Ok ill monitor it as it soaks and make sure its not rotting. Figured I'd ask since there is almost no way of myself knowing the type of wood it is and what to expect during the soaking and boiling process. Thanks for the help.
