I have two large common plecos in my 180 currently. One was a rescue about 2 months ago that we have not been able to re-home yet. Both are around 10-11 inches but one is more robust (wider in the head area). I noticed today that the more robust one's stomach is swelled. We have well cured drift wood in the tank and they are fed the same diet. The larger one does not appear to be in distress in any way. I have heard that they can be territorial, but mine appear to like each other and swim together and lay together often. I have read that plecos will not breed in a tank, but I am wondering if the one is a female ready to lay eggs. The other fish in the tank are cichlids, so I doubt anything could survive anyways, but just curious. I do have a 90 gallon (2x2x2 feet) that I could move them to if anyone thinks that could help. Please do not be rude. Good information is not easy to find. Thanks.

Welcome to the AC!
What are you feeding them?
Have you got any pics of them yet?
It would make it easier to sex them.

lol, they will breed, mine did just the other day. Although I hardly see them during they day. One thing I did notice, however, is one has dug out gravel under one of my rocks making a makeshift home out of it, and this happened a day or so after I found the babies.

Hello - I thought my gibby was a bit bloated the other day, and I put in some shelled peas which he's eaten, his tummy doesn't look quite so fat now but he's still got a big belly - fingers x you're gonna have babies!
