Last winter I was attempting to introduce Japanese Trapdoor Snails to my 45 gal tropical fish tank. The fish tormented the introduced adult snails until they died. I was fortunate to have other adult snails in a fishless tank give birth to babies, which I introduced to the tank with fish. They were small and seemingly unnoticed by the fish. They succeeded very well, and have since grown to ¾ adult size. They appear to have learned to not open up as wide to prevent having their feelers be such a tempting target for the fish. They continue to do well and to help control algae.
