Can a few of you guys/gals please give me a brief example of the differences in Bettas. CT = Crowntail right? I've enjoyed the beauty of Bettas off and on since I was a small fry myself, appearently blind and ignorantly tho.

What's the typical kind you pick up at Wally World? (Walmart)
About how many different types are there?
CTpk = ?

Hey Kayla-Bug, this should be right up your alley!!!:sbiggrin:

usually what you see at walmart are veil tail bettas. Like you said there are crown tail bettas and there are also half moon bettas i think. I'm sure there are others too.

You can't usually pick them up at wallmart but there are also plakats, which i believe are a more "wild type". They have shorter fins then veilstails and crowntails and are more active than them.Crowntails have what appear to be spiky fins and veiltails are really flowy. Those are the ones you usually find but I know on rare instances some people have spotted double tails and halfmoons

here's a site that has the different types of fins

LOL! Lets see, CT is Crowntail, you are correct! And the typical ones they sell at walmart are the VTs, Veiltails. A CTPK is a Crowntail Plakat. Means it is a mix between a CT betta and a Plakat betta, which is the ones with the long slender bodies. They look like this http://www.splendenspower.cz/files/4galeri/bojovnicemesice/007unor07.jpg

That one has really nice finnage.

Here is a site, which I love, that has all the answers. They know their Bettas, that's for sure!

definitly check out the link someone else posted betta talk. She sales bettas. They are very expensive but they are some of the most beautiful strains I have ever seen. Plakats are the most natural bettas if you will. They have short fins like the female because in the wild the shorter the fins the less the other male has to hang on to. And the bettas big huge fins we see would be a bad handicap in the wild. And the walmart bettas are veil tail as someone else mentioned. Breeders have long done away with the veil tail and you will rarely find a breeder who has them. I have seen half moons at the pet store but it is rare. And crown tailed are in the big chain pet stores as of late. My husband doesn't care for them. He thinks their fins look riped up verses bred that way. Here is a direct link to some beautiful strains that faith has bred. I wish I could afford one. I spend too much on fish as it is. I dont think I will be getting any special bred air mailed fish anytime soon but it would be nice :)
