Hi!
This is a new fish that my sister in law got, was just told that it was a cichlid, I thought it was a convict but I'm really hopeless with cichlids and have no idea, could you tell me if my guess was right? (only going on the stripes, LOL, have no idea to tell you the truth!!!)
Sorry for the poor pics, only had my mobile phone with me to take them!

Oh yes...that is indeed a convict.....get another...and you have the two halves of a breeding colony.

Thanks for that!
Greatly appreciated. I thought it was, just wanted conformation, mind you the only reason I thought it was because it was stripey, for all I know there is probably other fish that are stripey too!
Now this going to soundl ike a silly question too, but is the reason that you say that it's a female Mike, is because of the orange on the belly?

The orange on the belly is a good indicator that it is a female
(although some males can have a touch of orange to)
but the orange plus the shape of the anal fin confirm that
it is a female, here's a pic of a female convict I had for reference..
