View Full Version : Is this a cichlid of come description?

Hi!
This is a new fish that my sister in law got, she was told it was a gourami, which it obviously isn't, but I'm no good with cichlids but thought that it looked like one!!!
Could someone help me out?

I am pretty sure that cichlid is a Green Terror (I think)

Well it's definatly is a Chiclid, that much I know. However I can't be sure on the species, I would guess GT or JD or both? Nice looking fish though(zfish) .

Hi,
Yes that is a Cichlid.

And it dose look very much like a Jewel Cichlid.

What type of tank is it in?

And what other fish are in it?

No After a closer look at the pic, I say 100% Jewel Cichlid.

There is absolutley no red on this fish, so do all jewel cichlids have red or are they some sort of morph that have red?

And do all Green Terrors have the "lines" of the sparkly green stuff (forgive my description:c2: ) on their faces, as this one has just the dots, no lines or do they develope later?

(LOL, after looking it does look a bit red in the pics doesn't it? didn;t notice it when taking the pics, will have to have another look! No light above the tank, so just looked green and brown)

I am 100% its not a jewel. I have had them before and they do NOT get that round. To me it looks like some kind of hybrid.

Hi,
Right I have had another look through the pics. And these are my questions.

I notice that the fish has the same body shape. Well it looks apparent. But the pics is blurred so that could make the fish slightly rounded looking. The next thing is that the pic that cocoa_pleco placed of the Jewel Cichlid gives some more debate. Accordingly after some more closer looks at the pics in question, that their is for one the same colour pattern. The same face, and body. But the fines are to blurred. And the same with some of the colours, plus their is some marking missing. So I think to better ID this fish we need better pics. But I am now 80% positive it is a Jewel.

Some thoughts on this?
