I have a 44 gal fresh water aquarium with a Cascade 1000 pump which pumps 265 gph. I have about 14 fish, three rather large maybe 4-5 inches.
Still, with the great pump, I am having to clean my pump about every two weeks and the hoses too! When first cleaned, the pump runs vigorously as it should for about three days then starts dwindling. I think the hoses are always getting muckied up. I have tried the stuff that's supposed to keep the hoses clear but not much luck. With the bigger fish, should I get a more powerful pump? Any suggestions out there?
Is it normal to have to always clean the hoses every time I clean the pump? Also, I only feed the fish once per day and I am careful to not overfeed.
Thanks
Suzanne
