Hi y'all, I'm having a problem with a whaite alga like growth in my tank. It's everywhere, on rocks and wood and plant leafs.

Description on rocks, wood etc it is a white slimy coating.
On plants it is white 'puffballs', about 1/8" to 3/16" diameter when I remove the plant leaf from the water it instantly 'deflates' to a slime.
On the tank glass when you view from front on it looks like like a piece of 'hair net'..

I clean it off as bst I can and in a few days it's back. I've tried the famous hydrogen peroxide soliution - no work, as bed as ever after 5 days of dosing the tank.

Help please!!!! thanks, : :15:

cavin,
Sounds like cyanobacteria, fairly common in newer aquariums. In my algae primer on top of this forum is how to get rid of it.

Dave,
after some research on 'cyanobacteria' I was led to the site below. As you will see the white stage is apparently at the 'bloom' stage.

BTW these folks do not go into killing the stuff as they ar researchers into the 'why' of it.

In closing I seem to have licked it, I tried the old hydrogen peroxide treatment and it has vastly reduced this issue.

thanks and regards DesC.................. :19:
