Crawfish out of water!!!

Anyone know just how long a crawfish can actually stay out of water? Seems like he really tries just before he molts. Could this be? Is it possible he is looking for mud or sand? Sure sure, I know crawfish are notorious escapees, but could we all be slightly wrong about keeping theese guys in an all aquatic environment? Just like to get some opinions.

Different species can be out of the water for different amounts of time. Unless he is spending tons of time out of the water I would not worry about it. Make sure water quality is still high, low water quality can trigger animals to try and flee the water.
