This will be one of many such pieces of information to come unfortunately as Mother Earth continues in her downward spiral caused by our stupidity.

I have always understood this to be the case. Everything I always read said they are endangered in the wild but reproduce so well in captivity it is not an issue to buy them. In addition to the one lake, I have read that they are also found in something like one well, not very helpful for a whole species. Fortunately it does have the potential to remain in captivity without significant problems. Those are the stakes you play when you specialize so much and reduce your range to a lake or two.

Having been to Mexico and seen the condition of the country I'm not surprised.

Hydroelectric dams are planned for areas of pristine waterways in the Amazon basin in Brazil that will place dozens, if not hundreds, of species of fish, and those animals that feed on fish, with probable extinction. Ahh the wisdom of man.

Why aren't they bred in captivity and reintroduced?
