View Full Version : Betta Bulbs Question

I am currently cycling my 6 gallon tank with the fishless cycling method. I have about 6 betta bulbs laying on the gravel bed. Yesterday I noticed a clear substance lightly covering two of the bulbs, so I took them off. They reappeared today. Does anyone know if this is a kind of fungus or is it just part of the plant's growth cycle? Thank you.

That looks like the stuff that's all over the wood in my tank but I have no idea what it is... sorry.

Several boivinianus bulbs grow a coating of what looks like mold. Wipe this stuff off like you have been. You may need to repeat this process several times. If you can squeeze the bulb and it's hard still then it's fine. If itís squishy, its dead and needs to be removed. If itís really bad, a really foul smelling goo oozes out. Just keep a close eye on it, I know I lost two of my bulbs.
