I just got my pleco because i found some redish brown algae on my rock and fake rock. IT wasnt much, just a few spots. anyways, my pleco really seems to like it. Is there any way to grow more? I havent ever had an outbreak of algae b/c my pleco (the one that died in my move to college) always kept the tank spotless. Now, my new pleco doesnt seem to eat anything but algae. Any suggestions? ALso, i thought green algae was good for filtration.

Leave the light on longer or make sure the tank gets lot of light from outside?

I wouldn't encourage algae growth.LOL once you got it you can't get rid of it!
And it takes ages to clean.
You can get lettuce or cucumber or something, pour boiling water over it. Cool it off then put that in your tank. The pleco should eat that! My bristlenoses love a bit of letuce.

Or you could always buy algae wafers to feed the pleco.

If you really want algae - although i hate it( LOL had string algae for aggggggggggggggggggggges ) then more light of lesser intensity should make it grow. Such as normal lightbulbs or natural sunlight.

Hope this helps.

Get some rocks and add them to a container with tank water.... leave them in full sunlight (window sill) until the algae grows and you have your own algae farm going for your pleco without growing the algae in your tank :19:

I think that if you use a combination of what the previous two postees said..your pleco will be sorted out in way of food.,,just dont use iceberg lettuce..on a nutritional scale it tops at a zero...
