I have placed a piece of filter foam, across the ouflow, to slow down outflow. My Betta doesn't like the current. Will this affect the filter efficiency?

it should be ok as long as water can still get through, theres not an air valve in your filter where you can turn the water flow up or down?

Do you have HOB filter or canister filter?
HOBs can be slowed down by moving the intake collector to the right where it goes down to the impellor.A canister filter should have a valve on the air hose!

A plant that is tall enough to reach the surface can also help reduce the flow from the filter if the plant is placed in front of the filter.

Thanks all...the filter is a HOB, and can't be turned down. The water flow is still good with the foam. I have placed a silk plant there as well...The new Betta(Scotty) is kind of fussy, and very timid....I've spent most of my morning trying to make him more secure...I have no life!!!(ghost)

Try placing a sponge over the intake, it will slow it down a little bit.Let it collect dirt and food for a while. The fish will snack off it.
You can also use that sponge to start you next tank! hehe!:19:
