For my lighting question... typically I keep the light on in the day and off at night. Do you give your fish day and night cycles?
My heater is self regulating so it shouldn't impact the water temp too much. I just have a little 5 gallon.
For my outlet question.. I got a power strip for my light, filter and heater.. possibly add pump later for a bubbling clam I got....
I saw the strips came in different power levels. I just got a basic cheap one... is this wrong for the typical 5 gallon aquarium?
Sorry.. call me an aquarium dummy;)

Hello. I do lighting cycles for my oscars. I turn on the light for them around 1 PM and then leave it on till around 11 at night. They seem to like that.
About the power strip...that should be fine. That is what I did for my tank. Most people I would say have some kind of power strip. It shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks:) The tank directions said "be sure you have the right type of power strip".. there are so many types... I just got the basic.

a power strip is fine, just be sure to use a drip loop so you wont short yourself out.

the best power strips are those that have a surge protector/circuit breaker built in. i run a 24 hour light cycle. i run in hours: ()= number of
0000 hrs- blue leds (0)
0100 hrs- blue leds (0)
0200 hrs- blue leds (1)
0300 hrs- blue leds (2)
0400 hrs- blue leds (3)
0500 hrs- blue leds (4)
0600 hrs- blue leds (3)
0630 hrs- blue led (2)--/ half intensity actinic comes on
0700 hrs- (1) leds off/ full intensity actinic comes on 5 mins before leds off
0720 hrs- full intensity actinic comes on
0745 hrs- full intensity actinic/ 10000k daylight half intensity
0845 hrs- actinic off completely/ 10000k full intensity
full intensity 10000k until 1630
1630 hrs- half intensity 10000k/ half intensity actinic
1700 hrs- full intensity actinic/ 10000k off completely
1730 hrs- half intensity actinic
1800 hrs- 1 led on/ half intensity actinic
1900 hrs- 2 leds on/ actinic off
2000 hrs- 2 leds on
2100 hrs- 3 leds on
2200 hrs- 2 leds on
2300 hrs- 1 led on
i try to coincide with the natural cycle but, can't quite get it right! lol:ezpi_wink1:

So you get up during the night to change the setting on your lights or is that fancy shmancy light of yours set up with interval timers for all the different lamps?

You should open your own lamp modification shop.. you could " for the paltry fee of 400 dollars" modify your 250 dollar lamp to work on a digital schedule with led's and multilple lighting methods! LOL

yeah right!? lol
i think i'll stick to carpentry though lol
on a serious note, but not really, lol i just like to try and improve on things. i was one of those kids that ripped things apart and then tried to put them back together. i like to see how things work and how to improve them, if possible. i know my lighing system seems a little overboard, which it probably is, but i just like to do that kind of stuff, ya know? lol

I'm with you 100%.. I spend my time in the Woodshop, working on my cars or motorcycles.. or fixing something else... improvement is always a good thing.. I just don't have the extra time to play with some stuff because I have too many d_m_ projects to complete already.....
