Hi all, I finally picked up my new Savannah kitten. He is only 9 weeks old and is only 2.6 lbs. He is small, but not for long. He is an F3 so he should end up being 18 - 28 lbs. when full grown. We named him Dezel, as in Deisel gas because he is always at "full octane"

Here are a couple pics, hope you enjoy

Bad weekend, we almost lost our new addition. On Thursday he was very fevered, lethargic and not eating. On Friday AM I took him to our Vet and his fever was so high it didn't register on the thermometer, over 106.
We did blood work and started Antibiotics. Blood work showed a very low white blood cell count which meant a Virus.

I am happy to say that the antibiotics have really worked. On Saturday AM his temp was down to 102 and he started eating like crazy. Today, Sunday he is back to normal. Our Vet said that if we didn't bring him in on Friday he probably would have died on Friday night.

Very cute:)

But at 9 weeks he's too young to be seperated from his mum. If you got him from a breeder they should know that. Removing them before 12 weeks old makes them more prone to behaviour and health problems.

It doesn't matter if they've stopped feeding from their mum, they still need to stay with her to learn how to behave like a proper cat.

Interesting how you can turn a happy moment for someone into a negative.

I did get him from a breeder, you just can't buy a Savannah any other way. I was surprised that we got him at such an early age. The breeder did say that they don't send out their cats until they are at least 11 weeks old. I don't know what the circumstances were, maybe he was rejected from the Mom or the breeder felt his development allowed him to come earlier to us. We do have 3 other cats and we have been slowly introducing him to the others and it's going very well. We have a 1 year old Bengal and they have already become best friends. If Diezel learns how to behave from or Bengal we will be very lucky because he is such a wonderful cat.

You consider me being negative for giving advice on what's best for your cat?

I pointed out a fact, because some people don't know it. That someone being you (among others), because you brought him home at 9 weeks instead of 12.

Wow, you got a problem. Let me give you some advice; don't make statements and assumptions about someone unless you either ask them what they know or if they ask for your advice. The cat was shipped to me from Oklahoma, I'm in Connecticut. I didn't know the cat was 9 weeks old until I got the paper work for him at the airport when I picked him up. I know a lot more about cats than you can imagine so you need to chill and ask questions first.
The breeder has some problems but that would be for another post on a cat forum, not a fish forum. I'm lucky I have him at this point, again that's another post, not this one.

Just trying to enjoy, Michael

No, I do not have problems. I love cats and this is the 'other pets' forum, not part of the fish section of the forum. And when someone does something which is not in the best interest of a cat, then I will say something. If you don't get that then you're the one with the prob.

Instead of getting insulted that I said anything "negative" maybe next time you should be grown up enough to stay calm and explain the situation.

Great shots Spyder!Do they attack your tanks at all?

I recently moved and during the move I brought my tanks to my business. I never brought them to my new house and now I decided to leave them at work. I own my own business and I'm there 7 days a week so this works our well.

Beautiful Savannah!!! I have an F4 Bengal now and a Savannah is going to be our next addition. Our Bengal is so crazy...he needs another cat to play with. Again...excellent cat and thanks for sharing!

P.S. Glad everything worked out after the illness.

I'm definitly in love with your cats...:41:
Even if I love cat very much I don't know a bit about type of cat (always have mix cats, you know, straight from the street :wink2:.
Can you explain to me what is a F3 or F4, even in MP if you want?
Sorry if it's a stupid question...:14:

These types of cats are bred from wild cat species. The Savannah comes from an African Serval and the Bengal comes from the Asian Leopard Cat...they then breed these cats with a domestic cat. The F# represents what generation the cat is. F3 is a 3rd generation Savannah. The Lower the F# is, the more wild blood the cat will posses. Hope this makes sense.
