I have a 10 gal planted tank that I use for new platy fry. I want to keep this tank cycled between batches of fry and currently have 3 albino cories in there. I have been told the cories would likely be happier in the 55 gal community tank with the other cories I have so I am moving them......but what should I put in the 10 gal tank to keep it cycled?? I was thinking of pygmy cories but I know nothing much about them. would these little fish be suitable tankmates for platy fry or should I have something else in there? If the pygmy cories are a good choice would 6 of them be enough?

6 pygmy cories works, but you could get 6 zebra danios instead and they will keep it cycled

will zebra danios eat platy or guppy fry?

danios are topdwellers, so its not extremely likely but theres always a chance

youre better off with the pygmy cories

I've seen cories eat fry too though, not as much as danios will though.

Surely not intentionally, just a morsel in the substrate, gobbled up instantly. There isn't really a fish out there that won't eat livebearer fry, save for otocinclus and possibly some plecos.

Still, pygmy cories would be your best bet. I wouldn't get more than 5 or 6.
