They look very healthy.
What are you feeding?
Have you read the article on the site and in my blog about HLLE and HITH? It should be very helpful for anyone with any species prone to either (oscars are definitely prone to HLLE).

They are 5 inches right now. They share a 35gal. with a 5" pleco that I cannot properly identify as of yet.I have ac 50 and an elite10.They get a 40% water change every other day, simply to keep the crap under control. They are going into a 150 sometime around february.I was hoping o have it already bu work has been too slow!
I keep the tank at a conastant 78 and feed a mix of nutrifin complete flake food, blood worms ,floating pellets ,sinking shrimp pellets and a salad everyday. These are also the first Os i have had that do not get fed live,at least not yet!

Live food is not good. It introduces pathogens, increases aggression, and is nutritionally incomplete and unbalanced.
What pellets are you feeding?
Ditch the flakes and bloodworms. I don't know if you can get it or not (check online) but New Life Spectrum is the only food I trust any of my fish on anymore. If you can I highly suggest trying it. If you can't get that look for Hikari or Ocean Nutrition. There is a whole article on NLS in my blog if you are interested, or PM me.
What is the nitrate concentration?

My trates are about .5 barely readable and all others are 0. ph is 7.2.
I stay on top of it! I can't stand looking at a dirty tank.
The only foods available for 350 miles is nutrifin and wardley.
I like the flakes for the vitamins!

Have you looked into to ordering stuff online? It would probably be worth it to get some good foods. Or asked the LFS if they can special order things for you? Pellets usually have at least as much nutrition as flakes but without the mess.

I do not mind the flakes because my pleco eats them up!
Yes that is a real coconut.I made a couple of them out of 1.I used a saw to cut it and completely hollowed it out. Boil till the tannins stop . Change the water constantly until its clean.I don't mind the tannins and the fish seem to like it.
Thanks for the replys !:19:

Thanks,I am hoping they are male and female. I would love to have scored a breeding pair.I am still looking for breeding tubes!
Agreed. Pellets are better to feed to fish such as the oscar as they result in less waste.
Definitely get online and see what you think. Wardley is not well regarded as being a strong fish food. Hikari and New Life Spectrum are well regarded as being some of the best.

Nice pics Northern!
My Thomas is doind great on pellets (also because of the vitamins).
Plus occasionally, red worms, bloodworms, dried shrimp, real shrimp blended with fruit and veggies. Lettuce, peas... Someone at pet store suggested banana (they could fall into the Amazon River)...Thomas pooped white the next day. Think it was the banananananana?

I agree on checking out options for more food, its never hurts.
I would still feed the largest variety of foods i can manage to get away with safely, and usually i dont blow my money on the name brands, if you search around theres always brands that are very, very close for 1/5th the cost. Or make your own!
The 0's looks great ng!
