Well, when my friend gave me Gizmo, she told me she had to give her a bath because she was stinky. Gizmo was way more than stinky, she had a really pungent odor, kinda like a dogs ear when they are infected. She was also very itchy, and had some scabs. Last night she had seizures. Gizmo sneezes blood a lot more than normal, and wheezes. I also noticed a good sized tumor in her neck, from the back all the way around to the side. So today I took Gizmo to school, once class was over I did a few skin scrapes. She has a scabies type mite infestation. The tumor I am assuming is in, or grown to the pituitary gland, because of the small seizures she had last night. It makes me very sad, I have only had her for a few days but I love her to pieces. Now she has to be put to sleep.

That's so sad :(

Sadly, rats are prone to tumors... I did have one live for several years with one though. Is the tumor the primary reason you're putting her to sleep? If it isn't really causing her any discomfort maybe she'd be okay... I don't know, I used to keep rats and they are awesome creatures!

Rats are prone to tumors, females more so than males. She has many health issues, not just the tumor. I do not think it is fair to make her suffer. I would just start treatment for the mites and upper respiratory infection, but the seziures will only get worse with time.
