Recently, as my wife and I were looking into buying a house, I stumbled across a site that makes you read a very informative e-book style teaching article and gives you a quiz at the end of each section. You can't proceed without passing the quiz.
It was great process to go through and it forced me to learn some things and think about some things that I wouldn't have had I just plunged into house buying.
With all of the dedicated and talented writers in our forum, could we not come up with a shortish or longish quiz for the noobs? If they pass, they could have a little symbol of sorts in their avatar or an award, perhaps, that signifies that they have passed the "general knowledge of fish keeping course", based on the e-book.
I think that this would force a bunch of redundant questions into the sidelines since anyone who passed the quiz would already be in the know of the usual "What is a cycle?" type questions.
Anyone could take it, not just the noobs, thereby ensuring a level playing field with regards the some basic concepts. You couldn't force it, of course, but we would know for sure if when we tell people to go and read the e-book, they really are since they would soon have the symbol in their avatar, or an award, to prove they read it and did the quiz.
Just a thought.
