So I was doing a big trim on my 7.5g long for the first time. This tank has 1.1wpg with java moss, java ferns, anubias and anacharis. The java moss and anacharis take up the whole tank. So i was pulling out tonnes of anacharis to put in my 50g. Most stems were a good 2' long. (bear in mind this tank is 18"x10"x10") Then i find my self pulling out a massive 4' stem!!
I was so suprised. Anybody have very long ancharis? :19:

My anachris grows very slow and I have 2.9wpg. I have some Cabomba in the tank and I have to do a trim on it once a week! Each stem is about 18" long before I cut and replant it in the substrate. Trying to get it to fill out before I let it get way long and let it float across the top. Started with one little 3" piece of it and now I have about 8 12-18" pieces! The ends of the plant are turning a nice shade of purple.

The record for a single stem of anacharis (used to be called ditch moss) is 33 feet. I believe the record was determined in the first quarter of the 20th century.

Wow that is quite some record. They must have been there for hours pulling it out the tank! :19:

Out of the ditch, actually, Tolley. Read about it in a 1953 edition of Exotic Aquarium Fishes, by William T. Innes years ago. For some reason that record length for a freshwater aquatic plant stuck in my head.

I have had that happen with anacharis and cabomba. I just did my 75. I was trimming down multiple 4' stems. That tank is just under 1wpg.
