For some reason, I can't seem to keep a Plecostemus alive. I've got a Marineland Eclipse 12 (12 gallon) tank with a variety of 10 Tetras in it. It's been set up for about 6 months with no problems except that I'm on my 5th Pleco. The longest one's lasted is 2 weeks. I've got plenty of Algae, a piece of Driftwood, water temp is 75 and I had the water tested AGAIN (at 2 different reputable shops) and it's fine. I've consulted with people at both shops and the only thing they both suggested was the Driftwood. HELP!

Which species of pleco do you try to keep? the common pleco?

Do you use salt or copper in the tank?

Honestly WapsiRat, I would pass on the pleco. This fish will get FAR TOO LARGE for your tank, or for that matter every tank under 125. They get over a foot long and live a long time, my uncle had one that was 21 when it finally died. Also they put out ALOT of waste. For your tank get an otocinclus of two. They are one of the best herbivores and stay under 2"

Good luck.

Yeah, I know they get big, but they're pretty cool looking. The fish shop said when it got too big they'd buy it from me or trade. What is an Otocinclus? Thanks for the help!
