Hi all, I have a pair of wild caught Cyprichromis leptosoma (Mpulungu), otherwise known as "Blue Flash". They have spawned many times and I now have my group to 60. For those of you not familiar with them they are mouth brooders. The female will drop her eggs and catch them in her mouth and the male will fertilize them in the same fashion all in the open water.
The female will then hold the fry in her mouth for up to 31 days before releasing. During this time the female does not eat, any food she takes in is for the fry. This is very dangerous to the female and many have died so after 3 weeks I strip the female if the young.

Typically the female will hold up to 15 babies, my female has delivered anywhere from 7 - 14 fry. On Sunday it was time to strip her and to my astonishment she was holding.....pause......pause.....20 fry!!!

I took some pics of the fry but it's nearly impossible to get any good ones. They are in a small 3 gallon tank inside my 300 gallon. The pics will give you an idea. They are very small. about 1/4" in total lenth.

You make me jealous!!!!!!!!! The fry are very cute!! To get clear pics of my fry I take like 100 or so pics, with flash, tank lights off, macro mode. Then I crop the pics, it works for me. But with the looks of your pics, LOL you probably don't need my advice.

Fry are so cute and it's amazing watching them transform.

Now those are some neat fish that I had not heard of. They remind me of blue eye rainbows somewhat. Nice fish and a nice pile of them.

Most Cyprochromis are Jumbos and get 6" and are a bit aggressive. These perticular Cyps are not Jumbos, they get about 4" (which makes holding 20 fry even more remarkable) and they are peaceful.
