That is a very beginner mistake I made, I bought them thinking they were guppies. That is what the store said they were, well looks like I'm not going back their again...

I thought they were a short tail variety.... I guess it is just as much my fault as theirs.

I have 3 now as well. I will see how they go, they are in a comminuty tank. I was hopping to breed some Guppies.

the platies will breed like crazy, they are livebarrers just like guppies. If you know how to sex a guppy platies are the same way. If you have 2 females and 1 male you will have fry in no time. Heck I have 1 female and 2 males and found a fry in my tank the other day.

There isn't a lot of difference between platies and guppies and at many fish stores, they're kept in the same tanks. If you asked for guppies though, the person who sold them should have known the difference.
As for sexing them, gcnadam29 has some good pictures. The males have an extension on the anal fin that sticks out. They use this to tranfer sperm to the females. I couldn't sex your fish because the images are fuzzy, but it's fairly easy.
As for the fish you have, the common name is Mickey Mouse Platies, because of the shape of the black markings on the tails. It's kinda like a Mickey Mouse head, rotated 90 degrees.

Just a qeation here, i thought size and the fan of the tail would come into question on it being a guppy

I possiable have 1 Male but I definatly have 2 Females.
Well now I'm well aware what a Guppy and a platty looks like. I wont get them confused again.

Sorry, I was talking from a reproduction and water conditions point of view, not so much morphology, though even there there are some gross similarities. Guppies have been bred to have fancy colorful tails while in the case of platties there had been more focus on the body coloration and the color pattern (like the mickey mouse variety seen here).

Those fish are a member of the platy family. The LFS around here refers to them and Mickey Mouse Platy, due to their mouse shaped coloring towards the end of them.

No I didn’t take them back, the shop does not have refunds and I don’t really mind, they look good, just not the type I wanted. But that is ok. I should say that the shop keeper did not say they were Guppies. There was a note on the tank that said (male guppies and then the price). It is self serve so I picked the ones I wanted and got them out myself. They were the same price and the receipt does not have what type it is (just says fish). So I assume they put the Platties in the tank and then didn't change the note. Not really their fault, they didn't know that I wanted Guppies not Platties). I also got a female guppy (that one is a guppy) and was talking to him about breading, I would have thought he would have picked up on that (he knows I'm a beginner). But he may of assumed that I have some other male guppies already.
