I have a female platy in a 10 gal planted tank with about a half dozen month old fry (they are too big to fit in her mouth). I am wondering how soon after she gives birth do I have to move her to prevent her from eating all the new babies she can find....and also will the one month old fry eat the new babies? They are still pretty small about 1/2 to 3/ inches long.

The mom and the one month old fry will eat the new ones. Is your 20 gallon cycled yet?

The mother will be able to eat the fry, but the 1 month old fry won't be able to.

Congrats on more fry :19:

I would not take the chance on leaving the new fry in with the older fry. They may try to eat your new fry and just kill them trying. If you can seperate the new fry do it ,unless you feel you have too many.:c3:
Do you have the tank space?:c2:
