This may sound rediculous, but is it possible for my female Jaguar cichlid and my male Red Severum to breed? They've been together for over a year now and just last night the Jag started moving gravel making a nest and the Severum keeps swimming along side the Jag. Whenever another fish comes near the "nest" they both chase the intuder away. It seems like breeding behavior to me, but i'm not sure if they are genetically compatable or not. Please let me know what you all think.

Thanks,

I think if it did happen, you are going to some really interesting fish:19:
I hope it did happen. I can't wait to see what the fry look like. Unless you female is just going through the motions. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

Good Luck!

I think they would look very interesting as well! I haven't seen any eggs yet, but i've been on the look out for them.

Here are pics of the potential mom and dad! I couldn't even guess what the fry would look like!

Both fish are about 1.5-2 years old. The Severum is about the size of my hand with my fingers spread apart (about 7-8 inches). I also have a juvie green severum, but he's only about 3 inches long.

The jag may be setting him up.. when I put a severum with my jag it lasted about 30 seconds and I was lucky to net the severum out.. cuz he was about to be dinner.

nah jk actually it was a small red devil, that's pretty cool I was unaware that you could keep anything with a jaguar.. congrats, I gave mine away because I wanted my tank back for other fish.

In this tank i have a Red Devil, 2 severums, and a Jaguar Cichlid. No problems what so ever. The only cichlid i have that will absolutely not tolerate any tankmate is my male Dovii.

Wow that's an odd combination, how old is the jag? I recently moved Aggro (jag) into her own 4 foot tank. She was with my very very large oscar and brasiliensis and just attacked and they were brought up together. She is now about 3 yrs old - so just be very very wary.
