Does silver dollar fish eat fruit? And what kind of fruit?

None that I tried. I even got seaweed for mine and they wouldn't eat it. They eat the heck out of spinach leaves and roman lettuce leaves, tho. Didn't eat cukes or squash, either. I think they can't get ahold of it and need something leafy they can get in their mouth and tear off.

All my fish love their spinach!!
You can try a piece of banana, just don't leave it in too long.

I have 9 and love my guys too but they have gotten a bit ugly this last year. (The photo is of them last year.) They get black streaks and black round blobs on them at spawning and since they spawn constantly (like tetras) they are ugly the biggest share of the time now. :c2: Some days everyone of them is all streaky and blobby.

I only had one group of eggs that got to wiggly stage and I cleaned the tank of them. No other spawns have "taken." I have gravel in their tank and figure their eggs must fall in the gravel. Have no other idea of why no spawns survive but really, I don't care. They lay thousands of eggs and I couldn't deal with all those.

I also tried banana and they flunked that test, too, as did my clown loaches which are said to love it. Banana gets very muchy very soon in the tank, as well, and can only be left in about an hour. They did eat a bit of watermelon, as do my loaches, but melon has been a hot commodity in Michigan and I can hardly afford it now days so back to the spinach they go.

I have like 12 fish in 24" tank. Will silver dollars' eggs or spawns live to full grown in 24" with 12 fish tank? By the way i have 4 silver dollar.

A 24 inch tank is too small for SD. They get about 5 inches, are very fast and like room. Your tank is too small for SD much less all the other fish you have in there.

Silver Dollars will swim tight together, side by side, to spawn in the substrate. They do not eat their own eggs but everything else in the tank will. The new fry will stick to the glass.

I have 5 goldfish in a 60" tank, will my 4 silver dollar live with it?

If your temp. is around 74 - 79 and the SDs that you want are bigger than yoyr golds mouth it should be ok.Provided that your tank is well cycled and has proper filtration. They need room to swim as they are very skittish and swim very fast.If your tank is TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO small or Not LONG enough the fish will kill itself by swimming into the glass!

Good Luck!!

Tropical fish should not be in the same tank as coldwater fish.

24" tank is too small and not long enough for SDs? What if the SDs is smaller than my golds mouth what would happen?

It might get eaten. A 24 inch tank is definitely way too small for a silver dollar.

Oh I see, then i should move my silver dollar to 60" tank.

If your 60" tank is fully cycled and there is nothing in there that can hurt them .It should be ok. Its a lot better for them than being in the same tank as gold fish.
