Looking at your list, you should be ok. If you don't let your fish breed, you won't get overstocked. I would get more then on kuhli though, they liked to be in groups.

just make sure you keep an eye on the gouramis' aggression, as they can be!

You should be alright. The dwarf gouramis tend to be not too aggressive. Maybe at first but they should calm down in a day or so. As AM said, definitely a get more than one kuhli.

Dwarf Gouramis are very aggressive. Also are Bannded Gouramis. I tried 3 times to have 2 Banned Gouramis. First time one got its tails eatten and died a few weeks later. second time samething happened. Third time both died.

I still have 2 Peral Gouramis and they NEVER fight.

Dwarves are less aggresive than most full size gouramis. From my experience... i guess all fish can be different though

My male dwarf gourami chases everyone, but never for long and never does any damage to the other fish. Even the smallest fish in my tank has all it's fins intact.

Thats how my dwarfs used to be when i had them. They would chase their tankmates but soon give up and go back to floating...

still....think with mixed reports ill take the soft option and not bother...will have to go back to the drawing board on this one!

I had two honey gouramis and the only aggresion shown was to the zebras that keep chasing them.

Yea, if you want to play it safe you might just want to keep them out.

I've never had any problems with the dwarf gourami I have had either....but it is always up to the individual fish.

Great shot in your avatar Abbeys_Mom of your sparkling!

I have had dwarf gouramis that were lovely placid fish and I have one dwarf gourami (who was solely responsible for the second ones death) that is now in a 5 gal on his own because he cannot be trusted with any other fish. He harasses all fish I have placed him with. He is pretty but is a right git all the same. Like all fish it depends on the individual in questions personality. Rams can be aggressive too. Mostly toward each other when not ready to breed (if a pair) and toward all others when they are breeding. I have never kept cockatoos but I assume they would display the same agression when breeding as rams. Absolutely no agression in a tank is a difficult thing to achieve tho IMO because it depends on individual personalities and the all important pecking order the fish establish. A single ram of either sex is unlikely to be overly aggressive but there is always the exception to the rule lol

The tertas were probobly quarreling within themselves.

true...they seem to get a bit nasty when the light comes on in a morn but soon settle down.
will it grow back?

jman

depending on the health of a fish determines if and how long it will take for the fish fins to grow back...

i brought two kribs with fins clipped so bad it became the only reason for why i brought them. now the fins are so closed to repaired after 2 weeks they are fine and don't even look like they was that way. i love treating fish with problems and trying to make them the best that they can be.

When i bought my pleco his fins were real torn up. About 5 days later he was perfect.

you should be ok with 2 dwarfs just make sure you give them their own place to hide, my dwarfs all have their own spot for resting. from wha i read they are territorial and need plants to hide in. i hope this helps:19:
