I feel really bad for my fish, I just cant keep up. I just switched to third shift last week, which runs from 10:30 to 7:00 am. I though I was going to be fine but then i found out that college started back up this week. I Have classes on mondays and wend starting at 8 in the morning and i get home around 330. by the time i fall asleep its around 430 and then when I wake up i have to go to work and ive only gotten 5 hours of sleep.
the days that I dont have school I spend sleeping trying to catch up. So in other words I barly have time to keep up with my fish tank. the only time i get on this forum is when im at school or weekends.
I cant seem to sleep today so i figured i would eat something write this post and then do a well needed cleaning of my 10g tank. So if you dont see me on here that often anymore im still around just sleeping. Ill try to get on as much as I can at school.
wish me luck becuase i need it.

Wow, busy schedules are a bummer. Good luck with coping and getting adequate rest.
As for your fish tanks, would it be possible to get a friend to help you out? You could show them how to do a water change, and maybe offer some incentive for it. Maybe like a pizza or something if they do a water change say once every two weeks (you would alternate turns).
Good luck.

I do have younger sibblings that could possibly help the only problem is 2 of them are to young and my brother is too lazy. That leaves one sister. Ive been getting around stuff for her becuse she wants her own tank but I'm sure she would help out with my tank. Plus I Think i may put my platies in her tank to help cycle it that way I have room for an otto catfish to clean up my brown algae.
I also have an aunt who has a fish tank, and I thought about letting her have my 2 dwarf gouramis, shes wanted some and right now I need the least amount of fish in that tank that I can get that way It keeps maintenance down to a minimum.

If you let your sister help you with your tank the more experience she'll have for her own. i say you give her a try. it will benifit both of you!
Just becareful about moving all most of your fish though. Since they are already stressed out moving them into a new environment. So just watch it...but i'm sure you already know this.

You didn't even get used to the graveyard shift and now starting school. Good thing it's only 2 days a week with a day off in between as you'll need that day for some extra sleep. It's a hard shift and I found out after 3 1/2 yrs of it, you really get messed up and constantly tired. It goes against nature to be up all night and sleep days and our meals get just as messed up. You're eating supper when others are having breakfast.
You'll get used to it but it does take some time to get your biological clock turned around. The only way I was able to cope was to stay up all day and lay down around 3 PM so I could sleep right up until time to go to work again. Gets old!

My dad works nights from 4pm to 2am...He brings his dinner with him to work and sleeps until 8-9am...then he does his usual work with two boys before heading to work at 3:30. I get home at 2:45....so i still get to see him.
Don't people make more working the dead shift than regular hours?

This is crazy i cant believe what i just saw. I finally snapped when I decided to clean out my tank. I'ved hated the ugs ever since I put it in so I finally said thats it. I figured that its half the reason for the algae since theres so much stuff under there. So I transfered my fish to my 55g. Which I have been keeping at the same temp. And then I started cleaning out the tank filled a bucket with some water and put all of my decor. in it then Lifted up the ugs and stuff flew everywhere. I cleaned it out the best I could and then put all of my stuff back in and put water back in with about 50% new water maybe 75% it took alot to clean it out. The water is around 68 degrees.
Anyways I turned on my filter and my light and i was looking around and to my surprise I saw a fry swimming around in the tank. IDK how he made it thru all of that cleaning but hes in there. He probibly wont make it but wow.............................................................................................................................................................................................................wow!
by the way i know i will have to cycle the tank again but i figured that since I know i wont have to empty the 55g anytime soon I have that to fall back on. I dont think they will have any problem in the 55g tank becuase theres not enough fish to cause a big jump in ammonia in there.

I'm sad and sorry to say idk if super fry is going to make it. In the time it took me to get the fry net into the 55g tank, I couldnt find him. I looked in my filter and there he was in the filter media it took a little bit to get him out of it and at this point he is still alive but I really dont think he could make it through all of this.

you guys are hilarious! I like the reversal a lot, actually. The salvini will be called Jack, short for Jackson, and the dempsey will be called Sal, short for Salvador. That's perfect! I didn't want the dempsey's name to be Jack because I can only imagine how many JD's have that same name. I also thought about naming him "Blue" because of his color and from Old School the movie. "You're my boy, Blue!" LOL
Jack(son) and Sal(vador) it is. Awesome!
(Bob spelled backwards came in a close second)
Slinky_Bass: the barbs are doing great! They are constantly swimming back and forth checking things out. They are not in the least bit skittish and actually swim up to my hand when I'm in there. I've tried feeding them by hand, but they're not sure yet. I'll practice. I think they're already growing. I saw some full grown ones today and my school will look awesome as adults. I wonder how long before they're full grown? My salvini and jack doesn't seem to be growing, but I've stepped up my water changes (on account of Sal being sensitive to water conditions) to 60% weekly (30% twice a week). Hopefully all that fresh water will make a difference in growth speed. :)

Today after I woke up Super fry was still alive, but then a couple of hours later I found him lying on the bottom of the net. I guess at least his short life had alot of action in it.
I also found out at work next week we are starting 10 hour days, talk about adding to the stress.

Everything went fine over the weekend. I got grounded like usual...this time I can honestly say this wasn't my fault. My friend (Trey) came over and my parents weren't home. I had his CD and I told him I would run and grab it. My nosy neighbor saw Trey come into my house (he had to use the bathroom) and then told my dad I let him in. Totally unfair! I told my dad the whole story and he didn't believe me. So now I'm grounded for letting in a guy when no one was home. Aw man!
But I start work on Friday so It's all good

I have a neighbor like that. She is the most unfriendly woman in the world, and get this, shes a babysitter. Me and acouple of the guys were out playing whiffle ball in the front yard about 3 years ago. And she started taking picture of us. Everyday she would take pictures of us. So when she was out working in the yard, is stood out on our curb and started taking pictures of her. That made her stop for a while, untill she called the cops on us for playing roller hockey in the street. Some people can just be the absouloute WORST neighbors. I feel your pain, belive me.
