I've heard a lot of people who like danios or tetras, but could a live bearer do the trick? I would like to have a few and don't have other space for them. My aquarium is 30g. (US gallons)

Whom are you trying to calm? What is in your tank right now?

See if any of this helps

Sorry, I'm going to get kribs, but heard I should get some dither fish as well, since the kirbs will hide a lot less if they see schooling fish. I think that the dither fish: platies, mollies or danios would be the ones to add to the aquarium first, since they are more hardy and would do better in a new aquarium then kribs would.

I'm really new to fish so I'm trying to learn everything I can before I jump in.
