I've never really been able to get the clear lenses sparkling clean.

I've tried just scrubbing with tank/tap water... Then I figured diluted viniger may be a suitable choice. But still, its always cloudy and gross looking.

Any aquarium friendly chemicals you know of, or other products to get these lenses clear and pushing light through?

Back here in India we clean the glass(if that's what you're asking) with Rock Salt when the tank has been emptied and we service it.

No, not aquarium glass. The plexi glass windows on the aquarium lids that your flourescent light sits on top of.

Every 6 months or so I put about 4 inches of water in the bathtub with a gallon of vinegar. Then soak each lid that needs it for about 15 mins. Scrub it with a green scrubby then rinse off under the shower. Works like a charm.

I use vinegar, as well. Dab it on (full strength) with a sponge and leave on about 5 minutes.

Well if it's plexi glass then you'll be scratching it up with heavy attempts to clean it. Most hoods are glass.

I just use a scrubber and water, comes clean just fine.

Do not get any vinager in your tank water. It will turn your tank water acidic!Especially if you have soft water.:c2:

I have to be really careful with it here!

When I had just started out and got the used tank, I asked more or less the same question here. I tried plain old water, it got most of the gunk off. But I ended up soaking it in vinegar, for a while, then scrubbing it off. Just gotta be sure to really clean the vinegar off after.

yep let it soak in straight vinegar. If you let it soak long enough it will come off real easy. Rinse very very well afterwards.
