I came here to ask a heater question but looking around, I would love to be part of your community!

I've had bettas here and there in my life... two in my adult life. They lived to be about 1 1/2-2 (from the time I got them.. not sure their age when I got them). I get my fish from a small mom and pop fish shop and they're stunning.

This is Jaws... he lived about 2 to 2 1/2 years.. his first year was in a little 2 gallong hexagon tank... I upgraded to a 5 1/2 gallon and his little personality sure came out. He'd watch me (my aquarium is in my bedroom) all night.. he'd swim along with where I walked.. no it wasn't for food even when fed he was more into ME than the food. If I put my finger by the tank he'd rub by it like a cat. I adored him and miss him. I never met a fish with such personality.
A part of his little gill mask was always a bit showing since I got him.... not sure what happened to him.

When he died, a few months later I got Perri. He was beautiful too... he got overfed while I was away on business and his tank was so dirty he died shortly after that:(

So now I've set up my new 5 gallon tank... very nice decor (a nice big centerpiece with rubbery jellyfish looking thing that he can rub on, a great filtration system and a very scary heater). In a week or two I am going to go pick out my new fishy... either at the same mom and pop or my petco.. they have some really neat looking bettas with "special" tails... Ok ok I'm still learning. I hope through these boards my new guy will live even longer.

I had to have my kitty put to sleep in september and am really looking forward to having a pet again!

I'm not sure I have? I don't know the terms yet for the different types.. I loved jaws tail.. it was really big and flowy... I'll have to see what a crown looks like.

Hi CinRel, nice intro and lovely pics.

I also get very attached to my fish, I love their quirkyness and they way the can be so smart and observant (my angels sound like your betta, except they are exceptionally greedy pigs). I'm sure you'll enjoy the site, and good luck with your newly setup tank :)
