For those of you that do not know, I am in the process of joining the military. Tuesday I take the ASVAB which is the entrance test. I need to score a 30 to get in which is no problem at all. I would like to score 50-60 to ensure I qualify for the job that I really really want which is Military Police. If I do not score high enough for MP I may do transportation because that unit is just a few minutes away from my house.

I worry about my algebra because it has been about 4 years since I graduated from high school.

When I leave for BCT I will most likely have to get rid of all my fish because I am positive my dad will kill them...I have no friends who can look after them.

I can't wait to leave!

So are you signing up for full time service, 3 years? I thought you were just going to do reserves. I am sure you will do fine on the ASVAB. Wish I could help you with your fish, but FLA is too far a drive for me. LOL

Yes, it will be reserves. Minimum contract is 8 years...But part of that time will be inactive. I can be called back during my inactive time which they would do to all the reserves and in actives to avoid a draft if needed.

I will do the 6 year active reserve which means I will drill one weekend a month for six years. Six years gets me a lot more benefits which I need like 100% tuition and sign up bonus.

Right on! You had me worried there for a minute. My ex was in the army for his 3 years, then went to the guard for the same reasons. I have nothing but respect for you.

Yes, I chose the guard as well because they get to do missions here in the states like when hurricanes hit they are deployed to disaster relief. Guards do also get deployed over seas but every branch gets deployed there so...

Yeah, the two worst with him were 9-11 (clean up, NOT PRETTY), and then reactivated for one year sent to Iraq. It is hard to accept deployment of loved ones and friends........on the other hand it makes your heart swell with pride. You well do very well I am sure.

I just ook the ASVAB this summer and got a 95. The only problem is trying to stop laughing at some of the questions. If you know basic math then you will ace it.

I hate the NG. I joined when I was 17 did the split op thing. In December of '01 I finished a semester in college and wanted to go active. After enjoying...yes enjoying BCT and AIT, I felt that it would be nice to be able to actually be a soldier instead of a weekend warrior. I spent my last 3 years active NG fighting to go full time army. They wouldn't release and would give me excuse after excuse. I even went to active army recruiters and had them go to their officers and they kept telling me that I couldn't go active unless they would release me. I was stuck with my thumb up my butt one weekend a month and I considerate it being a waste of time.
