I have heard about people talking about their clams moving around in their tank. My question is, How do they go about moving?? Like what do they use to move?

I think they squirt out water, and the water pressure moves them, but I could be wrong

They open and shut there shells, creating a rush of water that pushes them a few inches at a time. When they are in a big hurry to get away they actually flap their shells like a butterfly.

Does it depend on the clam? Cause I've read a few places that they actually have an appendage that they use to move around when need be.

I have read that too. LOL I would assume that there are so many species in so many different environments, they cant all move the same way. I have always seen the "flying" movement, and I like that best. I have really never seen them dig into the ground and push themselves forward.

freshwater clams are FTW, I've had them in tanks before and they are super entertaining to watch! I would have them in my tank right now, if it wasn't planted (they couldn't get to the gravel to bury themselves when the ground cover spreads).
They have no bio load, and purify the water.

Thats really cool. I had no idea how they went about moving. I didn't think that it would be as simple as them just closing fast to create a gust of air to move them. Thats cool.

Nice one cocoa_pleco; definately a prize!
That type of SW clam tends to firmly affix itself to the rock or substrate and will get too heavy to move (being a type of giant clam and all).
I have seen some smaller bivalves 'swim' away on some television nature program before.
